Authorities have released the name of a child killed in a weekend crash in Mountain Brook.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the victim as Annabelle Mullican. She was 10 and lived in Mountain Brook.
Mountain Brook police responded at 5:27 p.m. Saturday to a report of the wreck in the 3400 block of Cherokee Road, just east of Overbrook Road.
Police Chief Jaye Loggins said moments before, the vehicle had been observed on Old Leeds Road traveling at high rate of speed and then turning onto Cherokee Road.
When police located the crash, they found a woman and two young girls injured. All three were transported to area hospitals.
Annabelle was pronounced dead at Children’s of Alabama at 6:20 p.m. Saturday.
Loggins said the investigation is ongoing.
“As is true in every critical incident, the investigation takes time and requires thorough review of all facts. No arrests have been made, nor any charges filed,” a police statement read.
A Mountain Brook police officer observed a white SUV traveling at a high rate of speed on Old Leeds Road, the statement continued.
After the SUV turned onto Cherokee Road, the officer activated emergency lights and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop, police said.
“As the SUV continued at a high rate of speed, an occupant threw two items out of a driver’s side window, and within seconds, the SUV crashed in the 3400 block of Cherokee Road,” the statement read.
