Father wanted in killing of his 29-year-old son jailed on capital murder charge

A Jefferson County man was arrested Monday morning after authorities said he fatally shot his adult son during a domestic dispute at the family’s eastern Jefferson County home.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the shooting victim as Dandrei Stepfon Freeman. He was 29.

Sheriff’s officials identified the suspect as 50-year-old Henry Edward Freeman. He is charged with capital murder.

Henry Freeman was taken into custody at another family member’s home in Fairfield. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 11:24 a.m.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched just before 11 p.m. Sunday to the 1800 block of Pebble Lake Circle on a report of shots fired in the area.

Lt. Joni Money said deputies learned a domestic violence situation had taken place inside a home there. Two people – including the suspect’s son – fled the home and the suspect pursued them.

The two victims ultimately returned to the family’s home, as did the suspect. Upon arrival, authorities say, the suspect got out of his vehicle and fired multiple shots into the victims’ vehicle.

The victim got out of the vehicle and tried to run for is safety, but was struck, Money said. Dandrei Freeman was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:53 p.m.

The second victim was not injured. Investigators said the shooting was domestic-related but have not elaborated.
