One Woman’s Opinion

Jackie Reed, Columnist

Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. It was a beautiful Sunday for Easter this year and a great weekend for the public to give thanks and appreciate life. The churches were full Sunday and it was so good to see everyone again. The Christians look to bring hope back for the world as Easter is the turning point for reconciliation to do something positive. People of Faith need to stick together as our pastor quoted.

My grandson came home from College for Easter and the family was excited to see him. He graduates from Auburn in three weeks and his brother will graduate from Huntsville High a few weeks later. We are so blessed. School will be out soon and I wish everyone a happy, blessed and safe summer.

The Governor made an appearance and speech at the VBC last week at a Chamber event. The event was packed full with many politicians, Aerospace workers and business leaders attending. I had my picture made with the Governor and put it on Facebook. I had met her the first time she ran for Governor and told her not to allow people to treat her bad on commercials and gave her a CD of my song “The Legend of Jackie Reed” by George Wells. I guess she had heard of me as she called me by name.

POLITICS

The Legislation has been in session in Montgomery and a lot of laws have been changed. I only wish we had copies and knew who voted on what. I believe next week is the primary election so be sure to go vote. The names of the candidates have not been published in the Huntsville Times yet.

CITY LEADERS

I was watching the Council meeting rerun of 03/24/22 last Sunday evening and could not read the closed caption words as they were appearing in a forging language. Why has the agenda for the Council meetings changed so much over the last 30 years? The public now speaks last on the agenda after the council has already voted on the items. The council also no longer reads all the agenda items aloud. They simply ask the council if they want to hold on any of the items and constantly combine approval of items in blocks. When it is the council’s time to speak, they usually speak for 20 minutes or more. The council should have a time limit for speaking like the public does.

Let us all work together and allow more public input on the big business deals our city leaders are giving to the developers. City leaders, please use some common sense when making your decisions. Our city is being built too fast and too close to the streets.

Love you all and have a blessed week.
