Union Hill CPCA observed its Annual Homecoming Celebration on Sunday August 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. with guest Minister Shawn Moore, Fresh Wind Christian Fellowship under Overseer John W. Jude in Athens Alabama and music by Union Hill Adult Choir.
In 1911, Union Hill had its beginning on the site now owned by Redstone Arsenal and Marshall Space Flight Center. In 1922, Reverend Henry Johnson, served as Pastor of Union Hill. In 1930, the Federal Government acquired all of the property in that area and the churches were moved out. Union Hill’s congregation split. Some of the members went to St. Elizabeth in Madison and others stayed in the Huntsville area. April 1947, Union Hill Second Cumberland Presbyterian Church was organized in Huntsville, Alabama as Union Hill Colored Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Elders Jim Holden, Albert Robinson Sr. and Sam Jones were the first officers, ordained by Reverend Jenkins Blackburn. Church services were held at the home of Elder Jim Holden located on Hall Avenue, with a total of 35 members. At that time, a senior choir was organized. In 1948, land was purchased from Elder Jim Holden, and the first church was built on Bailes Street, with Reverend Pearl Dancy as the full-time Pastor. From 1950-1963 Reverend Edward Earl Morton, served as Pastor. Services were held every 2nd and 4th Sunday. Membership had grown to 364, other church auxiliaries were organized and a Radion Ministry was broadcasted on WFUN Radio Station. From 1963-2011 Reverend McKinley Jones, served as Pastor. Morning Worship services were held every 2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays. Membership increased to over 600. Many organizations were established under the leadership of Pastor Jones. Pastor Jones continued the Radio Ministry at WEUP, “In the Shadow of the Cross”, along with the Union Hill CPCA Choir until November 2011. Reverend Dr. Edward L. Anderson is currently serving as Pastor of Union Hill CPCA. Our mission is to Love God with our whole hearts.
