HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Optimist Club of Huntsville hopes to instill respect for law in local children by honoring Resource Officers at public schools during May 2nd – May 7th, which is international RESPECT FOR LAW Week. During the week, local Optimist Clubs will sponsor activities to inspire respect for law enforcement among young people and to educate them on the jobs resources and other law enforcement officers perform. “
As Optimists, we believe it is important for children to grow up with an appreciation of the American justice system and a respect for law enforcement”, Club President Joseph Lee said. “We hope that our Respect for Law events at local schools will help in this effort.”
The Huntsville Optimist Club will host Respect for Law events at 13 Huntsville/Madison County schools participating in the club’s Band Instrument Loan Program. School Resource Officers at the following public schools will receive a Certificate of Appreciation and a $50 gift certificate: McNair Junior, Riverton Intermediate, Meridianville Middle, Moores Mill Intermediate, Morris p-8, Chapman Middle, New Market Elementary, Academy of Academics and Arts, Challenger Middle, Huntsville Middle, Mountain Gap, Whitesburg P-8, and Liberty Middle. The Optimist Club of Huntsville has been active and serving youth in Huntsville and Madison County since 1947. Other programs and service projects sponsored by the Huntsville Club include: Band Instrument Loans, STEM grants, youth essays and oratorical contests, TriStar basketball, and graphic art competitions.
