HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — North Alabama continues to rise as a powerhouse in national defense as Raytheon officially completed an $115 million expansion of its missile integration facility near Redstone Arsenal.
The expansion adds 26,000 square feet to the Redstone Raytheon Missile Integration Facility, increasing production capacity by more than 50 percent. Company officials say the upgrade will allow faster assembly and delivery of advanced missile systems used by U.S. forces and allies.
The project is expected to create approximately 185 new jobs, pushing Raytheon’s Alabama workforce beyond 2,200 employees and further strengthening Huntsville’s booming defense sector.
“This expansion positions us to stay ahead of emerging threats,” said Barbara Borgonovi, president of naval power at Raytheon.
Local and federal leaders praised the investment, calling it a major win for both the regional economy and national security. Officials say Huntsville’s growing network of defense contractors, combined with Redstone Arsenal and NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, continues to attract major investments.
The facility supports key missile programs, including the Standard Missile, Tomahawk, and AMRAAM systems, all of which are critical to modern defense operations.
With this expansion, Huntsville solidifies its role as a leading hub for aerospace, missile defense, and advanced manufacturing.
