GE Aerospace plans to invest $55 million in its Huntsville-area operations, reinforcing North Alabama’s growing role in aerospace manufacturing and strengthening the nation’s aerospace supply chain.
The investment will fund new and upgraded production equipment, as well as building improvements, at the company’s Huntsville site, helping to expand manufacturing capacity while maintaining the high quality required for advanced aerospace components.
The Huntsville facility plays a key role in producing cutting-edge materials used in modern aircraft engines. The site manufactures Hi-Nicalon Type S silicon carbide (SiC) fiber and SiC prepreg tape, critical building blocks for ceramic matrix composite components.
These advanced materials represent a major innovation in aircraft engine technology. Ceramic matrix composites are about one-third the weight of traditional metal components and can withstand temperatures up to 500 degrees hotter, helping improve engine efficiency, durability and fuel performance.
Completed in 2017, GE Aerospace’s Huntsville campus spans about 100 acres and was designed to support advanced technology and lean manufacturing processes that produce high-performance materials for both commercial and military aircraft engines.
Local leaders say the investment highlights the region’s growing reputation as a hub for aerospace and advanced manufacturing.
“GE Aerospace’s $55 million investment is a strong vote of confidence in our workforce and our community,” said Bethany Shockney, president and CEO of the Limestone County Economic Development Association. “This facility is producing cutting-edge materials that are literally changing how aircraft are built, and we’re proud Huntsville and Limestone County are at the center of that innovation.”
The investment is part of GE Aerospace’s broader plan to invest $1 billion in U.S. manufacturing sites and suppliers in 2026, marking the company’s second consecutive year committing that level of funding nationwide. The initiative is aimed at accelerating aircraft engine deliveries, expanding production of key parts and strengthening defense manufacturing capacity.
In North Alabama, the funding continues a pattern of expansion. The Huntsville site has already seen more than $93 million in investments over the past three years, helping support the region’s growing aerospace sector.
“This investment is exactly the kind of economic momentum that makes Limestone County a great place to live and work,” said Limestone County Commission Chairman Collin Daly. “We’re grateful GE Aerospace continues to grow here, and we look forward to supporting their success for years to come.”
The Huntsville operation is part of a larger aerospace corridor stretching across North Alabama, where defense, aviation and advanced manufacturing companies continue to expand.
Nationwide, GE Aerospace also plans to hire about 5,000 workers in the United States in 2026, including manufacturing and engineering roles, as it increases production of both commercial and military aircraft engines.
