Student choirs from Huntsville-area high schools and universities will take the stage during the “Voices of Hope and Power” Black History Month concert on Feb. 7 at Cavalry Hill Community Center.

Huntsville will celebrate Black History Month with the return of “Voices of Hope and Power,” a free community choral concert bringing together student voices from across the city.

Hosted by the Huntsville Music Office and Huntsville Parks & Recreation, the concert is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Cavalry Hill Community Center. Now in its second year, the event highlights the city’s rich cultural heritage while showcasing the musical talents of students from multiple generations.

Performing ensembles include Oakwood University’s Dynamic Praise choir, along with choirs from Alabama A&M University, Lee High School, and Jemison High School. Organizers say the collaboration reflects both the history and future of Black musical expression in Huntsville.

“This concert is a celebration of the city’s diverse culture and the incredible musical talent that exists right here in Huntsville,” said Huntsville Music Officer Matt Mandrella. “From our high schools to our universities, these choirs represent the strength, spirit, and future of our community.”

The inaugural Voices of Hope and Power concert was held last year at the Dr. Richard Showers Sr. Recreation Center. This year’s performance will take place in the theater at Cavalry Hill Community Center, offering a larger venue for the growing audience.

James Gossett, director of Huntsville Parks & Recreation, said the event aligns with the department’s mission to provide meaningful, community-centered programming.

“Events like this bring people together, celebrate history, and showcase the talent that makes Huntsville such a special place,” Gossett said.

Doors will open at 5 p.m., with the concert beginning at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and residents of all ages are encouraged to attend.

City leaders say Voices of Hope and Power offers a powerful way to honor Black History Month through music, unity, and community connection.
