HUEYTOWN, Ala. — A teenage boy was shot and wounded Sunday evening during an argument with another teen along a roadside in Hueytown, according to local police.
Authorities said officers responded around 6:45 p.m. to reports of gunfire near Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive. When they arrived, they found a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. The teen was taken to UAB Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a heated argument between the victim and another teenager known to him. “This was not a random act,” said Hueytown Police Chief Mike Yarbrough. “The individuals involved knew each other, and the dispute escalated into gunfire.”
The suspected shooter fled the scene but was later taken into custody without incident, police said. Charges are expected to be filed following consultation with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the confrontation, including whether the firearm used was legally obtained.
Chief Yarbrough urged parents to talk with their children about conflict resolution and the dangers of gun violence. “We hate to see young lives forever changed over a moment of anger,” he said. “We need to remind our youth that pulling a trigger is never the answer.”
