MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama State University continues to set the standard for excellence in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), earning the James Frank Commissioner’s Cup as the league’s top all-around athletics program for the 2024–2025 academic year.
The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon, officially recognizing ASU for achieving the best overall performance across SWAC-sponsored sports during the year.
Named in honor of the SWAC’s first full-time commissioner, the James Frank Commissioner’s Cup is awarded annually to the university whose athletic programs demonstrate the highest level of success across both men’s and women’s competitions.
ASU compiled a league-best 163 total points, thanks to consistent finishes across multiple sports, including football, basketball, track and field, and softball.
In addition to the Commissioner’s Cup, Alabama State captured the Sadie Magee/Barbara Jacket Award for women’s sports excellence with a score of 94.5 points, further highlighting the Hornets’ dominance. ASU’s men’s teams added 68.5 points, earning the Hornets second place in the C.D. Henry Award standings.
