Madison County’s Zoie Roberson steps up to unite and lead young Democrats as National Representative

On April 19th, at the Alabama Young Democrats Statewide Convention in Birmingham, Alabama, Zoie Roberson, one of Madison County’s very own, was elected Female National Representative for Alabama Young Democrats.
Reflecting on the moment, Roberson shared, “I was incredibly nervous and felt like all odds were against me, but God proved that no matter the odds, there is truly nothing He cannot do.” She added, “I’m so grateful for all the support I received that day and in the days leading up to it. It was a stressful ride at times, but I’m thankful everything turned out the way it did.”
During her fiery campaign speech, Roberson stated:
“Alabama Young Democrats’ presence will be made known. Our voices will be heard. We will be represented. And we will win. On my watch, no part of Alabama will be left behind, but bound together in unity. I’m tired of the division, in-party and out. It’s time our voices echo on the national stage and not just in this room.”
Following the convention, Roberson elaborated on the political climate that motivates her work:
“In Alabama, we’ve seen the fallout firsthand. Millions in federal funding once designated for education establishments have been redirected. In addition to that, in Huntsville alone, through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), federal workers are being laid off or pushed to resign, reducing our local workforce and weakening our communities.
Every day, there’s a new layer of political drama, while behind the scenes, bills are being debated that threaten to disenfranchise marginalized groups and roll back decades of progress. People are angry and, more importantly, they’re ready for change. A blue wave is rising.
As National Representative for Alabama Young Democrats, I stand with youth leaders across the state and country, like Stephen Anthony and Khadidah Stone, ready to empower and mobilize a new generation. My goal is to amplify the voices of young Democrats on the national stage, coordinate regional advocacy efforts, and bring national Democratic attention to Alabama to activate and motivate the next generation. I still believe in brighter days ahead, but as scripture reminds us, “faith without works is dead,” and we have work to do.
By raising a passionate, united body of young Democrats, bound by shared values and vision, change is not only possible, it’s inevitable.
As I always say:
‘Passion is the ignition; unity is all.’”
Roberson is a proud graduate of the Mae Jemison College Academy in partnership with the University of Alabama in Huntsville. At just 19 years old, she earned her degree summa cum laude from the University of Boston in Massachusetts. She also pursued studies in foreign politics at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Zoie is the daughter of Demond and Jemeana Smothers-Roberson.
