The Investiture for the Twelfth President of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, Dr. Daniel K. Wims, was held on Friday, April 29, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at the Thomas M. Elmore Gymnasium on the Alabama A&M University campus. The theme for the Investiture was “Advancing Our Legacy, Reimagining Our Future.” In the 147-year history of Alabama A&M University, only eleven other persons have held the title of President. Dr. Daniel K. Wims succeeds Dr. Andrew Hugine, Jr. served as President from July 16, 2009, to December 31, 2021.

Dr. Wims started his tenure as Alabama A&M President on January 1, 2022, and he has 35 years in the educational field. At the ceremony, delegates from College and University, Business and Industry, the Faith Community, Public Schools, Learned Society and Associations, Alabama A&M University Alumni Association, Community Organizations, Alabama A&M University Student Organizations, and Alabama A&M University International Students. Dr. Wims received his bachelor’s degree from Fort Valley State University, his master’s degree from the Ohio State University, and his doctoral degree from the University of Maryland College Park. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fountain, Cathryne, and other family members were in attendance. He is married to Daphne Danielle Taylor Wims of Atlanta, Georgia.

Wims told the audience that “words cannot express” his gratitude for what he called a particular moment in the institution’s history. He thanked chief influencers in his life, including AAMU Faculty Senate President and fellow Fort Valley State University graduate Jeanette Jones, several mentors, and his parents.

“The best is yet to come,” Wims concluded.
